What lift kit should I get?

What lift kit should I get?

Jake Hopkins |

Doing some homework before you buy a lift kit is a very good idea.

After all, there are hundreds of options for all of the most popular trucks, including:

  • Ford F-150/F-250/F-350/F-450
  • GMC/Chevrolet 1500/2500/3500
  • Jeep JK/JL Wrangler, and Gladiator
  • RAM 1500/2500/3500
  • Toyota Tundra/Tacoma/4-Runner/Sequoia
  • And many more
The important stuff.

When you're picking out a lift kit, there's only a handful of really important things to consider:

  • How much lift do you really want?
    • Lift height will impact what tires you run, how many additional mods you need to make, how the truck drives, where you can park it, and more.

      This is a big one.

Here at FASS Motorsports, we love the "go big or go home" mentality, but, for example, if you'll be loading car seats and groceries into your rig on a weekly basis, a 10" lift kit and 40" tires may not be the best idea...

Lastly, bigger (think 6" or bigger) lift kits may require additional modifications (transfer case drop kits, etc) during installation. We love installing massive lifts for our customers, but it is something to consider.

  • How do you actually use the truck?
    • Do you plan on going off-road on a regular basis? How much towing will you be doing? Do you need to be able to easily load things into the bed?

  • How much are you prepared to spend on a lift kit, wheels, and tires?
    • Don't forget—when you install a lift kit, wheels and tires are typically upgraded at the same time.

If that's the case, a $3,200 lift kit can quickly turn into a $6,000+ (or more) bill by the time you snag the right wheels and tires.
