Own a 2019–2024 Ram 2500, 3500, 4500, or 5500 with the 6.7 Cummins?

You've probably heard talk about valvetrain reliability, lifter concerns, and long-term engine durability.

That’s exactly where the Hamilton Cams Flat Tappet Conversion Kit comes in.

This kit is designed to replace the factory-style valvetrain setup with a proven, heavy-duty flat tappet conversion package built for strength, durability, and long-term reliability.

The simple version?

It’s a serious preventative upgrade for 2019–2024 6.7 Cummins owners who want to protect their engine and ensure a strong foundation for hundreds of thousands of miles.

What Is the Hamilton Cams Flat Tappet Conversion Kit?

The Hamilton Cams Flat Tappet Conversion Kit is a complete valvetrain upgrade designed for 2019–2024 6.7 Cummins-equipped Ram trucks.

The kit includes major components like:

  • Forged steel camshaft
  • DLC-coated tappets
  • Heavy-duty pushrods
  • Upgraded rocker arms

Each piece is engineered by Hamilton Cams to work together as a complete system.

Why This Kit is a REALLY Good Idea for '19–'24 6.7 Cummins Trucks

These trucks make excellent torque, tow extremely well, and are plenty comfortable to daily drive. But, they do have a couple of weak points from the factory.

The Hamilton Cams kit is extremely popular for the simple fact that it gives owners a stronger, more proven valvetrain setup designed to reduce wear and improve durability.

For most, the Hamilton kit is not about chasing horsepower. It’s about protecting the engine.

Forged Steel Camshaft

One of the key pieces of the kit is Hamilton’s forged steel camshaft.

Instead of being cut from basic bar stock, Hamilton’s camshaft is forged, which creates a tighter and more uniform grain structure.

Why does that matter?

A stronger camshaft means better durability and long-term reliability from the mighty 6.7 Cummins.

DLC-Coated Tappets

The tappets in this kit use a DLC coating, which stands for diamond-like carbon.

That coating helps reduce friction and wear between moving parts.

Less friction means less heat, less wear, and better long-term durability when the system is maintained correctly.

That said, Cummins owners need to pay attention.

DLC-coated parts still require the right oil, correct valve lash, and proper maintenance. Using the wrong oil, incorrect lash settings, excessive RPM, valve float, or metal contamination can damage the coating.

This is a very high-quality kit, but it still needs to be maintained correctly.

Heavy-Duty Pushrods

The kit also includes heavy-duty pushrods rated for significantly higher buckling force than OEM pushrods.

Why does that matter?

Pushrod flex can affect valve timing and overall valvetrain control, especially under higher cylinder pressure.

Stronger pushrods help keep the valvetrain more stable and consistent.

For Cummins-powered Rams that tow a lot, have performance upgrades installed, and/or are subject to hard use, that matters.

Upgraded Rocker Arms

Hamilton also includes upgraded rocker arms designed to handle stress and heat cycles better than factory components.

These rocker arms feature improved surfaces and coatings to help reduce friction, wear, and galling.

The theme here is simple: better materials, better design, better durability.

Oil Choice Is Extremely Important

Don't skip this part.

Hamilton Cams is very specific about oil requirements for this kit.

Recommended oil options include:

  • Valvoline Premium Blue 15W-40 for normal temperatures
  • Valvoline Premium Blue 5W-40 for sub-zero Fahrenheit temperatures
  • Schaeffer 700 Series 15W-40 for normal temperatures
  • Schaeffer 5W-40 for sub-zero Fahrenheit temperatures

Hamilton also recommends the Fleetguard Stratapore LF16035 oil filter.

Why so specific?

Flat tappet systems need proper oil film strength and the correct additive package. Thin oils or low-additive oils may not provide the protection these components need.

Using the right oil is not optional—it's part of the design.

Correct Valve Lash Matters

The Hamilton kit also requires proper valve lash adjustment.

Their recommended lash settings are:

  • Intake: 0.010 inch
  • Exhaust: 0.020 inch

Lash that is too loose can increase impact and damage components. Lash that is too tight can reduce oil film thickness and accelerate wear.

Best for Stock and Mild Builds

Although this is a performance-minded camshaft and valvetrain package, Hamilton recommends thinking of it primarily as a reliability-focused fix for stock or mild builds.

It is best suited for trucks that:

  • Stay under 4,000 RPM
  • Use OEM-style spring pressure
  • Are built for longevity
  • See towing, daily driving, or work use

If you’re building an extreme high-RPM race engine, this may not be the right mindset.

49-State Emissions Compliance

Another major benefit is that the Hamilton Cams Flat Tappet Conversion Kit is SEMA-certified for 49-state street use.

Especially for emissions-intact customers, this is an added bonus.

Professional Installation Matters

This is not an upgrade most owners should treat like a simple Saturday afternoon bolt-on. Proper installation, oil selection, lash adjustment, and fitment verification all matter.

If your engine block or cylinder head has been surfaced, fitment should be verified before installation.

And we're here to help. We're happy to answer questions about the kit, and install it at our facility if you like.

Fitment

This kit is designed for:

  • 2024 Ram 2500, 3500, 4500, and 5500 with the 6.7 Cummins

The Bottom Line

The Hamilton Cams Flat Tappet Conversion Kit is one of those upgrades that makes a lot of sense for 2019–2024 6.7 Cummins owners who are thinking long-term.

It strengthens key valvetrain components, improves durability, and replaces factory-style components with a proven, purpose-built system.

*If you want to keep your 6.7 Cummins healthy, reliable, and ready for the miles ahead, this is absolutely a kit worth considering.*
