If you own a Ram HD and have researched front-end parts, you’ve likely heard of Carli Ball Joints. Now, owners of post-2013 suspension redesigned Ram HDs with factory radius arms can install their last set of ball joints. But what makes these Carli joints so special?
The main differentiators are materials, process, and design. Rather than enumerate every material, Carli focuses on design and testing to ensure the joints outperform anything off the shelf. Their lifetime ball joints have been in circulation since 2007, and the engineering behind them speaks for itself.
Design Improvements
The factory lower ball joint in AAM design is a true ball-and-socket allowing lateral misalignment. Factory designs rely on nylon liners and are sealed with boots. When the liner fails, the joint fails.
Carli’s lower ball joint improvements include:
- Serviceable design with a recessed Zerk fitting angled for easy access
- Channels machined into the ball surface for grease migration
- No liners – bronze wear surface preloaded with disc spring, safety washer, and snap ring
- Rubber seal locking the housing to the pin
Materials & Process
Carli tests multiple materials and processes to maximize durability. Key steps include:
- Copper plating all but the wear surface for masking
- Carburizing to achieve 20-25 thousandths case-hardness on wear surfaces
- Dry-lubing with corrosion-resistant gray coating paired with anti-seize and Redline CV2 grease
Carli safeguards their recipe to ensure longevity. These joints are backed by the industry’s only ADVANCED REPLACEMENT Lifetime Guarantee (applies when both upper and lower Carli ball joints are installed). Simply keep your receipt, provide a short video showing excessive play (.040” vertical or .020” lateral), and the defective joints are replaced with a call tag for return.
