Design Improvements

The upper ball joint uses a floating King-Pin design similar to the factory, but with enhancements. The pin “hat” contacts the housing, adding a second wear surface to distribute lateral loads while maintaining the factory-style fail-safe. The upper cavity is enlarged for a larger grease reserve, accessible via a threaded cap and zerk fitting. Channels in the pin allow grease to reach wear surfaces, and a Viton seal protects against environmental contamination.

The lower ball joint is a true spherical design, allowing lateral misalignment while tracking the knuckle on its axis. Carli improvements include a recessed, angled zerk fitting for easy servicing, machined channels for grease migration, and a bronze wear surface preloaded with a disc spring, safety washer, and snap ring. A rubber seal locks the housing to the pin for added durability.

Materials and Process

Carli Ball Joints are manufactured using advanced processes to eliminate wear-surface isolation while ensuring maximum durability. Copper masking and carburizing create a hard case surface of 0.020–0.025″ thickness. After heat treating, joints receive a dry-lube, corrosion-resistant coating to complement Redline CV2 grease and anti-seize, ensuring long-lasting performance under heavy-duty conditions.
