Description
Where the Dominator 3.0” is more balanced, the tuning in the UnChained System is enough to put the build quality of the rest of the truck to the test. At this level of suspension, customers should install a cage as the off-road capability far exceeds the capability of the truck itself. The front boasts massive, long-travel 3.5” King Shocks with an off-road oriented tune; the rear, 3.0” 4-Tube King Bypass Shocks. The bypass design provides far more bottom-out resistance than smooth-body counterparts and can be tuned to achieve the exact rear ride desired.
What does all this mean? Uncompromised off-road ability with an amazing on-road ride—resulting in a truck that’s a blast to drive in all environments.
The Details
The Carli 6” Systems are an entirely different animal than the 3” offerings. There is no entry level; every system is equipped with a custom-tuned shock package and Radius Arm Conversion. The longer, flatter links cycle more linear travel and offer superior ride quality over extending a short arm to work with a 6” front lift. Complete with a Driver’s side axle shock, Carli radius arms allow the axle to roll freely without binding—combining the strength of a radius arm with the articulation of a 4-Link. Drop brackets bolt to the frame with no modification to the factory brackets, ensuring the truck can be returned to stock. The gusseted, clam-shell arms boast internal “X” bracing, 3” Currie Johnny Joints, and a gusseted 1-piece Crossmember (Dominator and UnChained only), making them both serviceable and nearly indestructible.
The UnChained Suspension is the only Carli kit tuned specifically for off-road performance. Customers are encouraged to install a cage as the system’s capability exceeds that of the truck itself. This package was tuned around 37” x 13.5” Toyo M/T tires at 40F/35R.
Front Carli Signature-tuned, King 3.5” remote reservoir shocks are so large that the factory spring buckets must be bored for clearance. Countless hours of tuning went into dialing an off-road oriented setup that still maintains good road manners. The rear is equipped with King 3.0” 4-tube Bypass Shocks to balance performance.
Bypass Shock Technology
Bypass shocks use external tubes with one-way check valves to allow user adjustment of fluid flow around the piston. At ride height, compression tubes allow fluid bypass for a supple ride; during large impacts, the piston closes off ports, forcing oil through valving for much higher resistance—acting like a tunable internal bump stop. On rebound, oversized tubes deep in the stroke allow fast shaft extension to maintain ground contact, then close to engage full rebound valving as the shock nears top-out. Larger diameters and more bypass zones translate to greater adjustability and control.
All Carli King shocks feature shafts machined from solid 17-4 Stainless—far more durable than standard hardened shafts. There is no coating to wear off, they resist weathering, and small chips can be smoothed without compromising seals. King shock bodies are plated steel; for extended exposure to harsh climates, wrapping in 3M protective film is recommended.
Your truck will sit 6” higher in the front with 60% more suspension travel than stock, thanks to taller, lighter-rate coil springs. The rear is lifted 4” using Carli’s Full Progressive Leaf Pack. This replaces the factory leaf springs, increasing travel and ride quality throughout the stroke at the cost of a 15% payload reduction from a standard 2500. Payload can be restored to factory levels with Long Travel Airbags (with optional spacers for 6” systems). The Full Progressive Leaf Pack requires no block to achieve the 4” lift.
To address sway bar geometry, the system includes a Carli Replacement Torsion Sway Bar. This replaces the entire factory sway bar with a torsion bar supported by fabricated drop brackets and delrin bushings, fabricated sway bar arms, and dual 5/8” FK heim end links. This upgrade is one of Carli’s most effective improvements to ride quality.
Other included components: extended stainless brake lines, adjustable track bar with drop bracket, bump stop drops, and a drop pitman arm. A carrier bearing drop bracket is recommended for trucks with a 2-piece driveline.
Wheel & Tire
This system will fit up to a 37” tire on wheels up to 9” wide with 4.5” of backspacing. More rubber equals better small-bump compliance at proper pressures; ride will firm up with larger wheel diameters.
