UnChained System
Where the Performance 2.5” Long Arm System is more balanced, the tuning in the UnChained System is enough to put the build quality of the rest of the truck to the test. It rides a bit stiffer on the road than our other high-end systems, but still much better than stock. At this level of suspension, we recommend installing a cage, as the off-road capability far exceeds the truck’s baseline. The front features massive, long-travel 3.5” King shocks with an off-road oriented tune, while the rear uses 3.0” 4-Tube King Bypass Shocks. The 4-tube bypass provides superior bottom-out resistance and is user-tunable to achieve the desired rear ride quality.
What does this mean? Uncompromised off-road ability with a civil on-road ride, resulting in a truck that’s a blast to drive in all environments.
The Details:
With the release of the 3″ Long Arm, the short-arm UnChained 3.5″ has been discontinued in favor of this extended travel version. This system requires cutting off the factory control arm mounts to install Carli Drop Brackets for the internally gusseted, fully fabricated Long Arm System. The arms are over 50% longer than stock, constructed from 3/16” cold-rolled steel with internal gussets, extended travel capability, more linear stroke, and better ride quality.
A 6.25” tall, slide-over shock tower is included for 11.25” travel shocks, along with 1” front bump stop drops and limit straps to ensure safe utilization of the King 3.5” shocks. The result is 6” up-travel and 5.25” down-travel, maintaining contact over rough terrain.
The system features front Carli Signature tuned King 3.5” remote reservoir shocks (requiring factory spring buckets to be bored) and rear King 3.0” 4-Tube Bypass Shocks. Bypass shocks have external tubes with adjustable one-way valves, allowing tailored compression and rebound performance. This provides tunable progression, internal bump-stop behavior, and consistent top-out control.
All King shocks use shafts machined and polished from solid 17-4 Stainless Steel. They are built with plated steel bodies and King oil rated to -55° F. For long-term protection, wrapping with 3M is recommended as a replaceable moisture barrier.
3.0” rear Bypass Shocks are paired with Carli Fabricated Rear Shock Mounts to prevent failure in off-road use.
Front lift: 3”-3.25” (year/cab dependent) with 70% more suspension travel thanks to taller linear rate coil springs. Free-height multi-rate coils are too short for full droop potential.
This high-performance system includes a Carli Torsion Sway Bar and Full Progressive Leaf Springs (no extended sway bar links or add-a-pack options). The Torsion Sway Bar replaces the factory assembly with a torsion bar supported by fabricated drop brackets and Delrin bushings. Fabricated sway bar arms and dual 5/8” FK heim end links complete the front package.
The Full Progressive Leaf Pack lifts the rear 1.5-2” by replacing the factory leaf springs, increasing comfort across the travel stroke. Payload reduction (~15% from a standard 2500) can be restored to factory 3500 SRW capacity with Long Travel Airbags.
Front axle shift: ¾” toward driver’s side and ½” rearward. The included Adjustable Track Bar recenters the axle for reduced deflection.
Wheel and Tire:
- Fits up to 37”x12.5” tires on 17”-18” wheels with 5-5.25” backspacing.
- With fiberglass fenders, 37×13.5” tires fit on 9” wide wheels with 4.5” backspacing.
- Tuned with 17” wheels and 37” Toyo M/T tires at 40F/35R.
- More rubber improves small bump compliance; ride firms with larger wheel diameter.
