Fitment Notes
- “Drop in” requires no more than .020″ piston protrusion and at least .038″ valve face depth with a standard gasket.
- If you do not meet the minimum piston-to-valve clearance, you can still run an oversize head gasket or cut valve reliefs.
- Not for sale in the state of CA.
Installation Highlights
Break-in matters. Disconnect the fuel system and spin the engine with the starter until oil pressure reads or oil comes out of the rocker arms on cylinder #6 — never run the starter more than 10 seconds at a time. Once oil pressure is verified, start the engine and run it to operating temperature, then shut it down. A hot re-torque is very important and will change valve lash, so set lash last: .010″ intake / .020″ exhaust. Poor lubrication at initial start-up is what lets a cam eat its way through the block on the last 3 cylinders — assembly lube and oil pressure on start-up are a big deal.

Notes
- Approved oil required. Use a 15W-40 (or 5W-40 in sub-zero conditions) with adequate zinc, phosphorus and molybdenum. Thin or low-additive oils don’t provide the shear strength a flat tappet needs.
- Approved oils: Valvoline Full Synthetic 15W-40, Valvoline Synthetic Blend 15W-40, Valvoline All-Terrain 15W-40, Schaeffer’s 15W-40, Mobil Delvac Extreme 15W-40, LIQUI MOLY Touring High Tech 15W-40, Driven Racing Oil 15W-40, Redline 15W-40.
- Acceptable: Shell Rotella T6 Full Synthetic 15W-40, Shell Rotella T5 15W-40.
- Preferred filter: Fleetguard Stratapore LF16035.
- Running a non-approved oil voids the warranty. All warranty claims must include the failed parts and an oil sample.
