So you're heading to your first diesel event.
Whether it's a dyno day, drag race, truck show, or a combination of everything like the Ultimate Callout Challenge, you're about to experience one of the best parts of the diesel community: the people.
Diesel events are loud, busy, sometimes chaotic, and almost always a blast. But if you've never been to one before, there are a few things that can make the experience even better.
Here are 5 best tips to help you make the most of your first diesel event.
1. Stay Close to the Venue
If possible, stay as close to the event venue as you can.
Whether that means a hotel, Airbnb, campground, or crashing on a friend's couch — proximity matters.
The closer you are, the more time you'll spend at the event and the less time you'll spend fighting traffic or driving back and forth.
Diesel events often have things happening early in the morning and late at night. Staying nearby helps you catch more of the action.

2. Plan to Be There Friday AND Saturday
If you're traveling for a diesel event, try to attend both Friday and Saturday.
These are typically the busiest and most exciting days of the weekend.
While many competitive events still have strong Sunday schedules, truck shows can sometimes start thinning out by Sunday morning.
If you want to see the biggest crowds, the most trucks, and the most action, Friday and Saturday are where it's at.

3. Expect to Spend More Money Than You Planned
This one catches a lot of first-time attendees off guard.
Many vendors and manufacturers offer show-only discounts on parts, apparel, and accessories. And some of those deals are seriously good.
Cash-and-carry specials, discounted merch, limited edition event shirts — it all adds up quickly.
So if you're going to a diesel event thinking you'll just "look around," there's a good chance you'll leave with more than you expected.

4. Dress Comfortable
Diesel events involve a lot of walking. Sometimes miles of it.
Wear your most comfortable shoes and clothes.
Also be prepared for weather changes. Depending on the location and season, weather can easily swing from hot to rainy to chilly in just a few days.
And, the only place to sit down might be a food court, bleachers, or a tailgate somewhere. Being comfortable will make your weekend way more enjoyable.

5. Don't Be Shy
If you see a racer, influencer, or content creator walking around — say hello. The diesel community is incredibly welcoming.
The vast majority of people in the industry are happy to talk trucks, take photos, or sign autographs.
Some of the most recognizable names in diesel performance still remember exactly what it felt like attending their first event—and they're happy to chat with you.

6. Bonus Tip: Bring a Backpack
This is a simple trick that experienced event-goers swear by.
A backpack gives you a place to store:
- Event merch
- Parts you purchased
- Water bottles
- Sunscreen
- Phone chargers
- Random swag you collect throughout the day
You'll thank yourself later.
