Commuter 2.0 System
In Short: The Commuter 2.0 system is designed for people seeking the best on-road ride quality on a budget. The mono-tube, internal reservoir Carli SPEC 2.0 shocks boast 6063 Aluminum construction, anodized body for corrosion resistance, 5/8″ hardened steel chrome-plated shaft, full serviceability & rebuildability, and are built with 1-piece bushings in the 6061 billet rod-ends. These shocks are spec’d with premium 5WT oil to balance lubricity, consistent damping, and the widest range in temperature variation. They are backed by a 1-year warranty, serviced by Carli. More details on these shocks can be found HERE.
The Details:
- Your truck will sit 2.5”-3” higher in the front (year/cab configuration dependent) with 50% more suspension travel than the factory platform thanks to taller, lighter-rate coil springs.
- The rear is lifted 1”-2” via the customer’s choice of a Progressive Add-A-Pack or Full Progressive Leaf Pack:
- Progressive Add-A-Pack: Maintains load capacity and replaces the factory overload with a 5-leaf progressive pack, keeping the rear planted while increasing traction and predictability.
- Full Progressive Leaf Pack: Replaces the entire factory leaf spring assembly, increasing travel and drastically improving comfort compared to factory springs or add-a-pack. Payload is reduced to a “light” 3/4-ton spec but can be restored to factory capacity using Carli Long Travel Airbags.
- When pairing added down-travel with the taller ride height, the factory front sway bar position may need to be altered. Two options are offered (unless 1994-2002, then there’s only one):
- Extended Sway Bar End Links: Equipped with ½” FK Rod-Ends and in-house machined 17-4 stainless bodies extended over stock. Factory pillow-bushings are reused.
- Replacement Torsion Sway Bar: Removes the factory sway bar, replacing it with a torsion bar supported by fabricated drop brackets and Delrin bushings. Includes fabricated sway bar arms and dual 5/8” FK heim end links. This is the best bang-for-your-buck ride-quality upgrade, in close competition with the full progressive leaf spring upgrade.
- When lifting the front end of a straight axle truck, the front axle is pulled off-center unless proper linkages are addressed. Three inches of front lift shifts the axle toward the driver’s side ¾” and back toward the cab ½”. This system includes an Adjustable Track Bar to recenter the axle and improve linkage strength. Extended control arms are recommended to shift the axle forward to its new center of travel.
Wheel and Tire:
- Fits up to a 35” tire with stock control arms (extended Mild Steel Control Arms recommended).
- If running factory wheels, we recommend an All Terrain 35” tire to avoid rubbing.
- For 37” tire fitment, pair with High-Clearance Control Arms and Adjustable Track Bar on a wheel with 5.75” backspacing.
- The more rubber, the better the small bump compliance at proper inflation pressures. Ride will firm up as wheel diameter increases.
